what do you think?

What do you think about the Marines banning large tattoos below the elbows and knees? The Marines say the tats are harmful to their "spit and polish" image.

Personally I think it's a bunch of bullshit. I understand what they're saying about image, but with all these guys have to go through, I think the Marine Corp should suck it up and let them have their tats. They have long sleeved dress coats for formal functions anyway.

I don't mind seeing a tatoo or two below the elbow, but this "Tommy Lee" "Dave Navaro" thing is way too much. Looks nasty and to me, a Marine should be about the cleanest cut young man going!

I'm thinking this way: the gub'ment is having a hard time recruiting as it is. I think they should suck it up and be grateful there are men (and women) who are still willing to join, instead of putting more restrictions on them. Or maybe they should just invest in all long sleeved uniform shirts...LOL!

It depends on whose stats you read whether or not the gub-ment is having a hard time:

I agree with "The Mush" on this one. A lot of the tats' are "way out of the envelope"! Especially those on the neck. Mine is under-the-short-sleeve. Proud to have it, but I'm also just as proud that it's not big as a billboard, and twice as disgusting!

I never liked tats at all, until I saw one of those neck tats on a cop on COPS. He looked FABULOUS, especially combined with that bald head of his. So now I'm a big fan of those...lol. Too much information, I know.

If you want to see what the Marines think about it, try looking at http://www.grunt.com/scuttlebutt/newsarchives/2007/apr_12.asp and http://www.grunt.com/scuttlebutt/newsarchives/2007/apr_5_ac.asp It's pretty interesting to read comments by the people it will affect.
